Funny thing is, I wasn't aware there was such a thing until I stumbled upon the topic this evening while searching homeschooled groups in my area. Come to find out, I've been more or less utilizing this approach the whole time with my son. After reading the pro's and con's about unschooling, I've decided from hereon out, I'm going to destress and not worry about my son being on a mainstream curriculum. I've seen how he's fourished just by setting his own pace while I'm there by his side answering questions about all sorts of topics he's chosen for his "interest of the day." Best part is, we don't have to worry about homework or waking up at the crack of dawn. Ahhh, yes, we can sit back and enjoy this newfound freedom :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19320112.post-1579652666227972122008-12-30T07:23:00.000-05:002008-12-30T07:23:00.000-05:00Parents can now have the option to choose which is...Parents can now have the option to choose which is best for their children. Her second professional production, "The Laramie Project," which features actors 14 to 23 years old, is completing its run this weekend. Anna Finklestein left Sharon High School after the ninth grade because she was bored and felt she could put her time to better use. She started a professional theater company for young adults, interned at Boston’s Huntington Theater and took college courses at the Harvard Extension School. This year, she got a part-time job at Ward’s Berry Farm.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19320112.post-64336726368463957862008-09-16T17:58:00.000-04:002008-09-16T17:58:00.000-04:00thanks for the read! it is very true what Rue Krea...thanks for the read! it is very true what Rue Kream said "learning doesn’t have to be something done in a certain place, on a certain schedule, in a certain way"... my gamps always reminded me that there are more things that one can learn outside the four corners of the classroom...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19320112.post-32726832608786332432008-06-08T21:34:00.000-04:002008-06-08T21:34:00.000-04:00I was a little astounded by the comment that a cla...I was a little astounded by the comment that a classroom education makes you well rounded. My kids ARE well rounded and not because they sit in a classroom for 6 or more hours a day. It is because every time they say "I wonder...." we, often as a family, go research that thing and find an answer. My kids follow their curiosity, they don't suppress it and aren't expected to wait to learn something until a curriculum says that it's time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19320112.post-79605813618524524342008-05-15T08:15:00.000-04:002008-05-15T08:15:00.000-04:00From a mother of two grown daughters, one of which...From a mother of two grown daughters, one of which was unschooled and the other chose to go more conventional and grab the GED so she could go on to college...I am so happy to see others sharing the views I've had for so long about self-led learning. It was awesome for my girls and I'm very, very proud of the women they've become. Both are very intelligent, have a love of learning, and each are working on college degrees (although they still detest "classroom time").

YEA for unschooling!Barb Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11879338992041413797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19320112.post-22010938896439882232008-03-25T16:43:00.000-04:002008-03-25T16:43:00.000-04:00The conference sounds great.
